Prince George’s County Marriage License Information

Marriage licenses in Prince George’s County are issued by the Circuit Court Clerk’s Office in Upper Marlboro, Maryland. Requirements and procedures are established by county and state law.

License Application

One or both parties to be married must appear in person with valid identification to apply.

Applicants must provide information under oath, including:

    • Full legal name of each party

    • Current place of residence

    • Age

    • State or country of birth

    • Marital status (single, divorced, or widowed)

    • Prior marriage details, if applicable (final date of divorce or date of death)

Identification

Valid identification is required, such as a driver’s license, passport, military ID, or other government-issued ID.

Social Security numbers are required by law for both parties.

Foreign nationals without a Social Security number must appear in person and complete an affidavit.

Non-Resident Marriage License

If the applicants do not reside in Prince George’s County and are unable to appear in person, they may apply using a Non-Resident Marriage License Application.

Age Requirements

Applicants must be at least 18 years old to marry in Prince George’s County.

Marriage involving a 17-year-old is permitted only with parental or guardian consent.

Waiting Period

Marriage licenses are issued at the time of application.

The license becomes effective at 6:00 a.m. on the second calendar day after issuance.

The license must be used within six (6) months of the effective date.

Marriage License Fee

The Prince George’s County marriage license fee is $75.

Additional Notes

Certified copies of a marriage certificate are available after the license has been returned to the Clerk of the Court and recorded.
