Montgomery County Marriage License Information

Now that you’re getting married in Montgomery County, here’s what you need to know.

• Marriage license applications are submitted at the Montgomery County Circuit Court Clerk’s Office.
• Only one party is required to appear in person to apply.
• The applying party must present valid identification for both individuals.

Identification & Required Information

Applicants must provide information under oath, including:

• • Full legal name of each party
  • Current place of residence
  • Age
  • Marital status (single, divorced, or widowed)
  • Prior marriage details, if applicable (date and place the prior marriage ended)

Applicants must present valid identification to establish age and identity.

Social Security numbers are required for any applicant who has one.

Application Timing & Validity

• • Marriage licenses must be obtained at least 48 hours before the marriage may take place.
  • The marriage license is valid for six (6) months from the effective date.

Age Requirements

• • Applicants must be at least 18 years old to marry in Montgomery County.
  • Marriage involving individuals under 18 is subject to additional legal requirements under Maryland law.

Marriage License Fee

• • The Montgomery County marriage license fee is $55.
  • Marriage license fees are non-refundable.
  • Errors on the marriage license cost $165 for corrections.
